End of an Era: The Evolution of Shouz

On a special evening surrounded by loyal customers, friends, family and team members, we gathered to celebrate an important milestone in the Shouz story.

After more than 47 years serving the Hyde Park community from our King William Road store, we officially closed our doors at this location on 27th June 2026.

For many businesses, a store closure can feel like an ending. For us, it feels different.

As Kate shared on the night, this is not the end of Shouz, nor is it a completely new beginning. It is simply the next evolution of a business that has always adapted, grown and evolved alongside the women it serves.

While the way people shop has changed over the years, the heart of Shouz remains exactly the same. Our commitment has never been just about shoes. It has always been about people. Creating a place where customers feel welcome. A place where relationships matter. A place where women can express their individuality, find confidence in what they wear and enjoy genuine connection.

Where it all began

That philosophy was established nearly five decades ago by founder Annette.

At just 23 years old, Annette took a leap of faith after spotting a small newspaper advertisement for a shoe store for sale. What began as one store quickly became something much bigger than she could have imagined.

Over the years, Shouz has grown into a multi-store South Australian business, with a thriving online presence, the GARDA brand, and a dedicated team serving customers across Australia. Yet despite that growth, the values have remained unchanged.

As Annette reflected during her speech, the greatest reward was never the shoes themselves. It was the people. The conversations shared across the counter. The friendships formed over decades. The privilege of fitting shoes for mothers, daughters and now granddaughters. The opportunity to be part of so many personal stories and milestones.

Those relationships are the true legacy of the King William Road store.

A family legacy, continued

The evening was also a moment to reflect on the generations that have shaped Shouz.

Kate spoke of growing up amongst shoe boxes and stock rooms, watching her mother build a business through resilience, determination and an unwavering commitment to their customers. Today, as a mother herself, she feels incredibly grateful to continue that legacy and guide Shouz into its next chapter.

Thank you

Most importantly, the night was an opportunity to say thank you.

To every customer who has walked through our doors. To every team member, past and present. To every family, friend and supporter who has been part of our journey.

Your loyalty, trust and friendship have helped shape Shouz into what it is today.

While we say goodbye to our King William Road store, the story of Shouz is far from over. The next chapter is already being written, and we are excited to continue serving our community with the same care, connection and relationship-led service that has defined us for almost half a century.

From our family to yours, thank you for being part of the journey.

Here's to the next chapter of Shouz. ❤️
