Styles Our Boss Has Loved For Years

Having been in the business since 1979, Shouz’s very own mother-daughter duo extraordinaire, Annette McInerney and Kate Rieger, know a thing or two about shoes. Annette opened the first Shouz Boutique in Hyde Park, SA aged 23 and hasn’t looked back since. It’s safe to say that she’s tried on more shoes in the last 40-odd years than most people will in a lifetime. We sat down with both of them briefly to find out what their all-time favourite styles were and why they loved them.

Kate:

D&J Brenda

The Brenda is one of our most versatile styles. There’s a reason we’ve kept bringing it back for three years and Kate explains why.

‘It’s the softest, easiest wearing, most comfortable shoe,’ she says. ‘It sits neatly around the ankle and provides height with the platform sole.’

‘It’s what’s known as a B-unit from Django & Juliette meaning we stock several other styles with the same comfortable base but different uppers like the BatuBump and Becca.

Our staff can testify to this, with almost every member buying a pair for themselves, it's the unofficial Shouz uniform!

Mollini Biscoti

‘This is another one of our core winter styles and a personal favourite of mine because it’s got a nice heel height and sits neatly around the ankle. It’s also got great tread, which is exactly what you need when you’re on mum duty with a toddler.’

'This style also plays into the chunky shoe trend without being too overpowering. It will still retain its appeal long after the trend has passed.'

D&J Norass

This bestseller has been a firm favourite of Kate’s for years. She loves styling hers under chic knit midi dresses during the colder months for a polished office look that transitions from day to night with ease.

‘These boots are microsuede so they’re quite soft and mould to the shape of your foot, which is perfect because I have wider feet,’ she says. ‘I even wore them the day before I went into labour.’

Even though the cuff is stretchy and will suit a range of calf sizes, if you aren’t sold on the knee-high length, then you might like the ankle-length version of these boots - the Nider. It features the same easy-to-maintain upper - just wipe them over with a cloth and a little bit of dishwashing liquid.

Annette:

Top End Pluma Old Gold

These sneakers are the embodiment of Annette’s bold, fun-loving personality. ‘I love a bold shoe and I love a bit of gold. They make you feel put-together even on the most casual of days,’ she says.

These sneakers are practical and comfortable while never compromising on glam. They’re perfect for her busy lifestyle.

D&J Finni

Another unofficial Shouz team uniform is the comfortable and classic Finni. The Finni sneakers are a long-time favourite for many reasons but one of the main staples is because they come in an array of colours. There’s sure to be a Finni to suit everybody’s taste.

‘They’re a very classic sneaker with a timeless silhouette. But you can play around with their fun colours and patent leather finishes,’ says Annette.

D&J Astronomy

If there’s one thing about Annette it’s that she loves a heel. Rather than ditch the heel, she chooses to opt for a heeled ankle boot during the colder months.

‘I love a bit of colour and feel that a navy is less harsh than a black and goes with a range of colours,’ she adds.
